By Jay Whipple
Trend Magazine
On August 20,
1998, the
Interfaith Pilgrimage stopped through Charlotte
as part of their
journey from Boston to West
Africa. The
Pilgrims re-traced the Middle Passage
slave trade routes as
they prayed for racial healing and atonement for the past
institution of Slavery in the
United States, South America, and
Europe. While in Charlotte, the
Pilgrims took a customized
Black
Heritage Tour™ of Charlotte and
Mecklenburg
County. Among the sites visited by the
Pilgrims was a former
Slave church and three existing
Slave cemeteries.
